The company went public in 2012 and has since expanded its portfolio beyond inverters to include battery storage and energy management solutions. Enphase specializes in microinverters, which convert DC power to AC at the panel level. Their current product lineup includes:

  • IQ Series Microinverters – These advanced microinverters, including the IQ7, IQ8, and upcoming IQ9 models, offer high efficiency, rapid shutdown compliance, and seamless integration with battery storage. Pros and Cons

Pros:

Panel-Level Optimization – Unlike standard string inverters, Enphase microinverters allow each panel to operate independently, improving energy yield in shaded or complex roof designs. Similar to a DC optimized string inverter, such as Solaredge, but there is no central inverter that can fail.


Increased System Reliability – Since each panel has its own microinverter, a failure in one unit does not bring down the entire system.


Scalability – Microinverters are ideal for system expansion, as panels can be added incrementally without redesigning the system. However, increasing the system size will increase both the DC (panel) and the AC (inverter) system size. Increases to the AC size will require re-approval from your utility. So, mechanically, the system is easy to expand, but expansions will require updated interconnection applications to the utility.
